A Classic Wargame

It’s been way too long since my last post. For some reason, I have been thinking about one of my favorite all time games, Memoir ’44.

I first discovered this gem back in the early 2000’s. I had been away from gaming for a while, and accidently found a podcast called The DiceTower. I would listen to each week’s episode as I walked during lunch time. M44 was praised back then, and I bought this along with another classic, Ticket to Ride.

Memoir ’44 is a beer and pretzels war game set in the WW2 theater. The orginal game contained scenarios related to mostly German and Allied battles. The Board is small and the unit density is easy to handle with Infantry, Tanks and Artillery. Each player has a hand of cards which they use to move and conduct battle with troops. The first one to eliminate a number of units win. Again, this is a very simple game, but I’ve always enjoyed it.

Over the years, they have released expansions to include other countries troops along with some specific battle scenarios. There is no shortage of information about this game.

Above, when I said “For some reason…”, that reason was I got the urge to read some of a book entitled Memoir ’44 – Tactics and Strategy Guide‘.

It’s a fun read and give you tips and tricks to play the game better. I pick it up every once in a while and read a couple of chapters. Good stuff.

Check out the links above. You might find a game that you might just like. Ticket to Ride is a fantastic family game.

Till next time…
