A few weeks ago, I got an oldie, but goodie game back to the table at the game club. We played a 5 player version of Age of Empires III: Age of Discovery.

This is an older game from 2007. The designer is Glenn Drove. It is a worker placement game with some area control, set collection of goods, and purchasing capital building tiles that give you money or special actions or abilities.

The object is to score the most points over 8 rounds. During the game, you will be sending colonists and specialists to discover countries that will get you an additional good and possibly more victory points. Control of a country is based on who has the most colonists in each one. Towards the end of the game, there is a war mechanic that lets you try and remove other players’ colonists to help you take over the country.

There is more than one strategy to win this game, and it always comes down to the last turn. I only play it about once a year, but I never have problems finding folks to play it with me. Click on the link above to check out the details of the game.
