My brother, Pete, and I played this until we were blue in the face. It was just a fun game.
Each time you pressed the fire button, you hoped you would see the target receptacle light up. While you were navigating to a new location, you hoped you wouldn’t hear that infamous buzz, which meant you had hit a mine. You were able to watch all this through the periscope as your opponent moved through your side of the board.
I think we played it so much that the electrical part of it stopped working. Maybe we just outgrew it, also.
We eventually learned that when the aiming device was rotated a certain way, you could adjust the periscope enough that you could see where your opponent had placed some of his subs and mines.
I’m sure my brother would agree with me that this game would belong in our ‘hall of fame’.
Here are a couple of videos that explain the game better.
